Facebook emphasizes posts that generate anger over other posts.  Because of this, users get trapped in what we call a "rage loop." The angrier you get, the stickier Facebook becomes. In other words, they want to make sure you don't leave so they keep you angry.

In the first quarter of 2021, the most popular post on Facebook (shared more often than ANY other post) was designed to get people to question the effectiveness of vaccines which have been found to be both safe and effective.  The ultimate goal of this post was to drive you to purchase a fake cure. 

No, of course not, Facebook doesn't actually kill people. They simply load the "disinformation gun" and point it directly at society.  The end result is that the most vulnerable people will be effected by the false information and hate speech that Facebook AMPLIFIES AND SPREADS AROUND THE WORLD.  

Certain people at certain times (e.g. going through a difficult divorce) are more likely to believe dangerous falsehoods and Facebook knows who and where those people are BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU POST. Facebook, like Santa Claus, knows what you're doing based on how you react to others' posts.  They specifically track what makes you angry.  They collect and "sell your eyeballs" to anyone willing to pay them including but not limited to political parties and purveyors of hate speech and fake cures.  

That is the most important question. The answer, unfortunately, is that big tech lobbyists managed to get the US Congress to pass Section 230 which protects Facebook and others from liability for what they publish.  Currently, the law treats Facebook and other social media companies differently from newspapers and television. In other words, SOCIAL MEDIA IS NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE no matter what they publish regardless of how dangerous and destructive it is.  We hope to change this legal travesty.
